**John Jay High School Briefly Locked Down Due to Nearby Police Activity**
WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY – John Jay High School in the Wappingers Central School District was placed on lockout on Friday, September 15th, at 2:13 p.m. as a precautionary measure due to police activity in the vicinity of Interstate 84. The lockout caused a delay in the afternoon dismissal.
According to a message posted on the school’s website by Wappingers Superintendent of Schools Dwight Bonk around 3:00 p.m., local law enforcement was involved in a police matter in the area. “Please know that the safety of all of our students and staff has not been impacted by this incident,” Bonk assured parents and the community.
The East Fishkill Police Department deferred inquiries to the New York State Police, who then directed them to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, citing them as the lead agency on the case. As of Saturday morning, the Sheriff’s office has yet to comment.
