**Simon Pegg Relieved to Be Spared Front-Row Seat to Tom Cruise’s Death-Defying “Mission: Impossible” Stunts**
HOLLYWOOD – For years, Simon Pegg has been a fixture in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, playing technician Benji Dunn alongside Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. This put him in a unique position to witness Cruise’s increasingly daring stunts firsthand, from scaling the Burj Khalifa to riding a motorcycle off a cliff. However, for the latest installment, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” Pegg admits he was actually relieved to be kept away from the action.
In a recent interview with *The Hollywood Reporter*, Pegg discussed his two-decade-long friendship with Cruise and his experiences on the film sets. He explained that while he’s witnessed many of Cruise’s terrifying stunts in the past, the sheer scale and danger of the stunts in “The Final Reckoning,” particularly an underwater sequence in a sunken submarine and an aerial biplane stunt, meant that Cruise had to perform them solo.
“Thankfully, yes,” Pegg said when asked if he was spared the usual nail-biting experience. “It has always been a terrifying thing for me to be there, and I’ve been there for all the big stunts over the years.” He noted the advanced film technology used for the submarine sequence was incredible.
Pegg also revealed that witnessing Cruise’s stunts, like the actor strapping himself to the outside of a plane in “Rogue Nation,” often causes him a great deal of stress. While Cruise may appear calm, Pegg admits the inherent risks are unsettling for everyone on set. Despite the anxiety, Pegg has remained an integral part of the franchise.
“But there was no nail biting and terror like there sometimes is on set when Tom is jumping off something or hanging onto something or generally putting his life at risk in the name of cinema,” Pegg stated.
“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is currently playing in theaters nationwide. The previous Mission: Impossible films are available for streaming on Paramount+.
