**Mysuru Celebrates International Yoga Day with Thousands at Iconic Palace**
**MYSURU, INDIA – June 21, 2025** – An estimated 15,000 yoga enthusiasts gathered at the majestic Mysuru Palace today to commemorate International Yoga Day. The event, a celebration of the ancient Indian discipline’s health benefits, saw participation from diverse groups, including children with special abilities.
The day’s festivities, organized through a collaborative effort of local yoga organizations, followed a three-week period of preparatory activities.
“Yoga is a science gifted to the world by India. It brings harmony between the mind and body,” stated District in-charge Minister H.C. Mahadevappa in his address. He emphasized yoga’s increasing recognition, even by allopathic doctors, for its health benefits and its role in fostering social harmony and a united society.
Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar highlighted the city’s historical significance as the “birthplace of modern yoga,” crediting Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar for bringing yoga master T. Krishnamacharya to Mysuru. He further acknowledged Krishnamacharya’s role in developing dynamic yoga styles and training influential disciples like B.K.S. Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois, who popularized yoga globally. Wadiyar urged the residents of Mysuru to embrace their heritage and become ambassadors of yoga, fulfilling Prime Minister Modi’s vision of the world benefiting from this ancient practice.
The event commenced with the traditional lighting of a lamp and blowing of a conch shell, followed by the Common Yoga Protocol. This year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” underscored yoga’s universal appeal and its connection to well-being.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Krishnaraja MLA T.S. Srivatsa, Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, and City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, along with representatives from various yoga organizations.
