Sat Jun 21 01:20:00 UTC 2025: **Devers Addresses Red Sox Departure, Embraces New Chapter with Giants**

SAN FRANCISCO – Just days after being traded to the San Francisco Giants, Rafael Devers faced the media Friday night at Oracle Park as his former team, the Boston Red Sox, came to town. While Devers largely dismissed any lingering issues from his final months in Boston as “in the past,” he did address one burning question: why he’s now willing to play first base for the Giants after resisting the position with the Red Sox.

“I would say that I have put some good numbers [up] over in Boston and I do feel that I have earned some respect,” Devers explained, suggesting he would have considered the position earlier if asked at the start of Spring Training. The opportunity wasn’t available at the time due to Triston Casas’s presence at first base.

Devers, who spent his entire professional career with the Red Sox before the trade, described the past week as “hectic” but expressed happiness at reconnecting with his former teammates Thursday. “It’s kind of strange to see them so soon,” he admitted.

When asked if he wanted to leave Boston, Devers maintained that the decision was out of his control and that he is focused on the future. He expressed significant happiness with his new team, saying he hasn’t felt this good professionally in “a long time” and that he feels “very relaxed” in his new environment.

While a debut at first base against his former team is unlikely this weekend, Devers is dedicated to learning the position and sent a message of gratitude to Red Sox fans: “I gave my 100 percent every time I went on the field. I feel grateful to the fans that supported me and just want to say thank you to them.”
