Sat Jun 21 03:40:00 UTC 2025: **Giants Finally Break Through, Flores’ Clutch Hit Sinks Guardians**
**SAN FRANCISCO** – After a series of frustrating offensive performances, the San Francisco Giants finally found their breakthrough on Thursday, defeating the Cleveland Guardians 2-1. Wilmer Flores delivered the decisive blow, a two-run double in the 7th inning, snapping a series-long drought of clutch hitting.
The Giants offense had struggled mightily throughout the series, exemplified in how, even in this game, they repeatedly put runners on base against Guardians starter Gavin Williams, but failed to capitalize. Williams pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, but the Giants simply couldn’t string together the hits needed to score.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the 7th when the Guardians scored a run. In the bottom of the 7th, the Giants finally caught a break against Cleveland’s bullpen. Casey Schmitt singled, followed by a walk to Jung Hoo Lee. With runners on first and second, manager Bob Melvin called for a sacrifice bunt, setting the stage for Flores.
Facing reliever Nic Enright, Flores delivered a perfectly placed hit, rolling between third base and the third baseman to plate both runners and give the Giants a 2-1 lead. The bullpen then shut down the Guardians to seal the victory.
Randy Rodriguez struck out two in the 8th, and Camilo Doval slammed the door in the 9th for his 11th save.
The win was a welcome relief for Giants fans, who had witnessed several tight losses. Starter Logan Webb pitched seven strong innings, allowing just one run and striking out nine, continuing his quality run.
Flores’ clutch hit marked the Giants’ 21st comeback win of the season, improving their record in one-run games to 18-15.
