Sat Jun 21 00:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Woman Attempts Suicide After Police Allegedly Assault Family

**Proddatur, India** – A woman in Proddatur, Andhra Pradesh, attempted suicide after alleging that police officers at the One Town Police Station refused to file her complaint and assaulted her son and husband. Sukanya, a local resident, had gone to the police station with her sister Laxmamma, brother-in-law Vijay Babu, and nephew Mahidhar to file a complaint regarding a dispute over money with a colleague.

According to the family, police refused to take their complaint. Distraught, Sukanya consumed a cleaning fluid within the police station premises. When Mahidhar began filming the incident on his phone, a Circle Inspector (CI) allegedly assaulted him. When Vijay Babu intervened, pleading for leniency due to Mahidhar’s young age, the CI allegedly assaulted him as well. The family also alleges that their phones were confiscated.

Witnessing the alleged assault on her son and husband, Laxmamma attempted suicide by lying on railway tracks. She was saved by locals. The incident sparked outrage after videos circulated on social media.

Police claim that they have registered cases against both parties involved in the initial money dispute. They deny refusing to take Sukanya’s complaint or assaulting the family, stating that Laxmamma’s suicide attempt was a deliberate act to intimidate the police.

The incident has raised serious concerns about police conduct, with family members accusing the police of intimidation and neglect. An investigation is underway.
