**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, June 20, 2025** – The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation took a significant step towards sustainable waste management today by distributing electric tricycles to Haritha Karma Sena workers. Mayor Arya Rajendran officially launched the initiative at a ceremony held at the Corporation office.

These electric tricycles will be used by the Haritha Karma Sena to efficiently collect non-biodegradable waste from across the city and transport it to designated collection and treatment centers. The Haritha Karma Sena members have undergone a month-long training program to ensure they are proficient in operating the new vehicles.

This initiative is a result of collaborative efforts between the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategy Council (K-DISC), Social Alpha Foundation, University of Toronto India Foundation, and Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA). The electric tricycles were chosen as one of the winning innovative ideas from the “Innovations in Sustainable Urban Transition” program.

The Corporation hopes this move will not only streamline waste collection but also reduce the city’s carbon footprint, further solidifying Thiruvananthapuram’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
