Fri Jun 20 17:20:00 UTC 2025: **Cubs Look to Capitalize on Slumping Mariners at Wrigley**
**Chicago, IL** – The Chicago Cubs (4-2 on this homestand) welcome the Seattle Mariners to Wrigley Field this weekend for a three-game series, looking to continue their dominance against the AL West. The Cubs are 5-1 against AL West teams this season.
The Mariners, once leading the AL West by 3.5 games after a May 23rd victory over the Astros, have since struggled, going 8-15 and losing seven of their last eight road games.
According to Kate Preusser, managing editor of SB Nation’s Mariners site, Lookout Landing, the Mariners’ struggles stem from both inconsistent offense and a pitching staff dealing with injuries. While starters George Kirby and Bryce Miller have returned from injuries, and Logan Gilbert is expected back soon, the team’s young starters have admirably filled the gaps in the rotation. The offense, however, continues to rely heavily on home runs and features two rookies, Cole Young and Ben Williamson, still adjusting to MLB pitching.
The Cubs have historically had the Mariners’ number, boasting a .680 winning percentage (17-8) against them, their highest against any American League team except the Athletics and Orioles. At home, the Cubs are even more dominant, with a .727 winning percentage (8-3) against the Mariners. The Cubs have never lost a series to the Mariners at Wrigley Field, winning two of three games in 2007, 2016, and 2023, and both games in 2019.
The pitching matchups for the series are as follows:
* **Friday:** Matthew Boyd (LHP, 6-3, 2.79 ERA) vs. George Kirby (RHP, 1-3, 5.96 ERA)
* **Saturday:** Cade Horton (RHP, 3-1, 3.47 ERA) vs. Emerson Hancock (RHP, 3-2, 4.48 ERA)
* **Sunday:** Colin Rea (RHP, 4-2, 3.84 ERA) vs. Logan Gilbert (RHP, 1-2, 2.55 ERA)
All games are scheduled for 1:20 p.m. CT. Friday’s game will be broadcast on Marquee Sports Network and MLB Network (outside Cubs and Mariners market territories), while the Saturday and Sunday games will be on Marquee Sports Network.
Following the series against the Mariners, the Cubs will travel to St. Louis for a four-game series against their NL Central rivals.
