Thu Jun 19 19:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Sinner Returns to Winning Ways, Braces for Bublik Challenge at Halle Open

**Halle, Germany** – World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has kicked off his grass court season with a victory at the Halle Open, defeating Yannick Hanfmann in the first round. This marks Sinner’s first match since his grueling five-set defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the Roland Garros final.

The Italian star, seemingly rejuvenated by advice from his coach, now faces a familiar foe in Alexander Bublik in the second round. The pair recently clashed in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros, with Sinner emerging victorious. However, Sinner is wary of the threat Bublik poses on his preferred surface.

“He’s a very talented player,” Sinner said in a press conference. “He likes or loves playing on grass, which is his favourite surface. He has won against me here and also won the tournament, so it will be a very difficult game.”

Bublik, the 2023 Halle Open champion, represents a unique challenge with his unorthodox playing style. Sinner acknowledged the difficulties in facing such an opponent, stating, “You simply have little control because you have to get through on your service games and then see what you can do on the return games. I think on grass he is one of the best servers we have.”

While Sinner leads their head-to-head record 4-1, their grass court encounters are evenly split, with each player claiming a victory. Bublik’s win came last year in Halle when Sinner was forced to retire due to injury.

Sinner is approaching the match with caution, emphasizing the need for focus and concentration. “I’ll just play as concentrated as possible and then we’ll see,” he said.

The match between Sinner and Bublik, the only two former Halle Open champions remaining in the draw, is scheduled for Thursday, June 19th and promises to be a thrilling encounter.
