Thu Jun 19 20:20:00 UTC 2025: **Ford Halts Mustang Mach-E Sales, Recalls Over 300,000 Vehicles Due to Door Latch Glitch**
**DETROIT, MI** – Ford Motor Company has issued a stop-sale order and a recall for approximately 317,000 Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs globally, spanning model years 2021 through 2025. The recall stems from a potential glitch affecting the electronic door latch system, which could prevent occupants from opening the doors if the vehicle’s 12V battery unexpectedly discharges. This could result in individuals being locked out of or, more seriously, trapped inside the vehicle.
“In the event of an unexpected 12V battery discharge, the front door electronic latch may not function, which could leave you stuck outside or, worse, inside the vehicle,” Ford said in a statement.
The automaker has instructed dealerships to cease sales of the Mach-E until a software fix is implemented. Ford anticipates releasing a software update to address the issue within the next few weeks, targeting a Q3 rollout. While the update is expected to be available for existing Mach-E owners, some reports suggest that a dealership visit might be required for installation, rather than an over-the-air update.
Once the software fix is ready, Ford will notify owners by mail to schedule a free service appointment with their local dealer. The company has stated that it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the defect.
This recall arrives as Ford also adjusts the prices on Mach-Es manufactured in Mexico, citing “usual mid-year pricing actions, combined with some tariffs.” However, the company is still offering employee pricing on many 2024 and 2025 models, bringing the starting price of the 2025 Mach-E down to $36,005 with the discount.
Despite the recall, Mach-E sales remain positive. Ford sold 4,724 Mach-Es in the US last month, marking an 11% increase compared to May 2024. Year-to-date sales through May total 19,258 units, a 2.8% increase over the same period last year.
