**Chandigarh, June 3, 2025** – A resident of Tarn Taran district in Punjab has been arrested for allegedly sharing sensitive information about Indian Army movements during Operation Sindoor with Pakistani intelligence operatives. The arrest was made in a joint operation by the Tarn Taran police and the Counter Intelligence wing.
According to Director General of Police Gauarv Yadav, the accused, identified as Gagandeep Singh, was in contact with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and received money for passing on classified details. These details included troop deployments and strategic locations, posing a significant threat to national security.
Investigations revealed that Gagandeep had been in contact with Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla for the past five years, who allegedly introduced him to the Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). A mobile phone containing intelligence shared with the PIOs, as well as contact details for over 20 ISI contacts, was recovered during the arrest.
“Acting swiftly on information received from Counter-Intelligence-Punjab, Tarn Taran Police apprehended Gagandeep Singh. The arrested accused had been in contact with the Pakistan ISI and Gopal Singh Chawla, sharing sensitive information concerning army movements during Operation Sindoor,” DGP Yadav stated in a post on X.
Authorities are currently conducting thorough financial and technical investigations to trace other potential links and determine the full scope of the espionage network. An FIR has been registered under the Official Secrets Act at Police Station City, Tarn Taran.
Operation Sindoor involved pre-dawn missile strikes by the Indian armed forces on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7, following the Pahalgam terror attack in April that resulted in 26 fatalities.
“Punjab Police remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the nation and will take all necessary actions against those involved in anti-national activities,” DGP Yadav affirmed. This arrest follows a previous case where six individuals were apprehended for allegedly spying for Pakistan.
