**Teen Charged with Arson in Victory Mill Fire**

**VICTORY, NY -** A 14-year-old has been charged in connection with the devastating fire that consumed the historic Victory Mill in the Village of Victory on Saturday. NewsChannel 13 sources confirm the fire has been determined to be arson, and the investigation is ongoing.

Firefighters responded to the scene on Gates Avenue around 2:30 PM Saturday to find the massive, 230,000 square foot structure engulfed in flames. According to Victory Mills Fire Chief Ryan Campbell, the intensity of the blaze forced firefighters to take a defensive approach. “We’ve already made the call that nobody is going into the structure unless there was immediate life at risk,” Chief Campbell stated. “It was fully involved so we took a complete defensive approach to it.”

Witnesses described a scene of intense heat and flying embers. “There’s been embers going as far as the eye can see. The flames have been coming. I could feel the heat just standing by that fence. You could see things collapse and you could hear things collapse as it’s been going,” one witness reported.

The fire took approximately an hour to get under control, but crews remained on the scene for hours to monitor the situation.

The Victory Mill had been abandoned for approximately 25 years. The Village of Victory had recently received a $10 million planning grant earmarked for the mill’s demolition and the subsequent redevelopment of the land into living and recreational spaces.
