Tue May 20 22:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Carville Blasts Buttigieg Over “Hindsight” Criticism of Biden’s Re-Election Bid

**Washington, D.C. -** Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville has sharply criticized former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for suggesting that the Democratic Party would be in a better position had President Biden not sought re-election.

Buttigieg, when recently asked about Biden’s 2024 campaign, stated that “with the benefit of hindsight, I think most people would agree that is the case [that it would have been better if he hadn’t run].”

Carville responded forcefully on his “Politics War Room” podcast, accusing Buttigieg of speaking out only after Biden’s decision to drop out of the race in July 2024, following a poor debate performance that raised concerns about his mental fitness. Biden ultimately tapped Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the Democratic ticket.

“Of course, all of the people who never said anything, you know, now Pete Buttigieg is saying, ‘Well, it would have been better if he hadn’t run for reelection.’ Well, f—, say something when it meant something,” Carville exclaimed, according to a clip highlighted by Mediaite. “But now in retrospect, everybody’s, ‘Oh, well, s—, we should have known.'”

Carville’s comments come amidst renewed scrutiny of Biden’s mental acuity, fueled by recently leaked audio from a 2023 interview with special counsel Robert Hur, in which Biden appeared to struggle with questions and dates regarding classified documents found at his home. Notably, Buttigieg was among several Democrats who previously defended Biden and rejected claims of declining mental health during his re-election bid.
