Wed May 21 01:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Cardinals Soar to Rain-Delayed Victory Over Tigers, Gray Dominates
**ST. LOUIS** – Sonny Gray delivered a masterful performance, striking out 10 batters over six scoreless innings, as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Detroit Tigers 11-4 on Monday night in a game briefly interrupted by rain. Brendan Donovan led the offensive charge with three hits in the Cardinals’ 16-hit barrage.
Despite the loss, the Detroit Tigers maintain the best record in Major League Baseball at 31-17. However, the Cardinals are on a hot streak, winning 13 of their last 15 games while outscoring opponents 85-36 during that stretch. Masyn Winn, Lars Nootbaar, Alec Burleson, Iván Herrera, and Victor Scott II each contributed two hits to the St. Louis attack.
The game was halted for 34 minutes due to rain in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Cardinals didn’t lose momentum. Gray (5-1) bounced back from a shaky outing against Philadelphia, allowing just three hits and one walk to earn the win.
Detroit’s Sean Guenther (0-1) had a rough first MLB start, facing only three batters before being relieved. Keider Montero struggled in relief, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over 5 2/3 innings.
St. Louis exploded for six runs in the seventh after the rain delay, capped by a two-run home run from Pedro Pagés. The Cardinals have now hit 11 home runs in their last 11 games.
Defensively, Lars Nootbaar provided a highlight reel moment in the fourth, leaping and catching a fly ball in foul territory before crashing into the wall.
The Cardinals’ starting pitchers have not been charged with a loss since May 2, a streak spanning 15 games.
Looking ahead, LHP Tarik Skubal (4-2, 2.67 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Erick Fedde (3-3, 3.44) on Tuesday.
