Wed May 21 04:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Angels Extend Winning Streak, Defeat A’s in West Sacramento
**WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. —** The Los Angeles Angels continued their winning ways Monday night, defeating the Oakland Athletics 4-3 in the first game of a four-game series at Sutter Health Park. Taylor Ward’s two-run home run in the third inning proved to be the difference-maker, backing a solid outing from Angels starter José Soriano.
Nolan Schanuel also contributed with a leadoff home run and three hits for the Angels, who have now won four straight games after a recent sweep of the Dodgers. Closer Kenley Jansen secured his ninth save of the season, striking out Tyler Soderstrom with a runner on second to end the game.
The Athletics, struggling to find their footing in their temporary home, have now lost six consecutive games and 10 of their last 12.
Schanuel gave the Angels an early lead with his third home run of the year. The A’s responded in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on a double play and an infield single after loading the bases.
Soriano (3-4) pitched six innings, allowing three runs on six hits and four walks. J.T. Ginn (1-2), making his first start since returning from the injured list, took the loss for the A’s, pitching four innings and giving up four runs on six hits.
Brent Rooker extended his hitting streak against the Angels to 15 games despite the loss.
The series continues Tuesday, with Kyle Hendricks pitching for the Angels against Gunnar Hoglund for the Athletics.
