**MADURAI, INDIA – May 20, 2025** – A special court in Madurai has handed down significant prison sentences to nine individuals involved in a 2022 ganja smuggling operation in Dindigul district. The First Additional Special Court for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act Cases sentenced six individuals to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and three others to 10 years. All nine were also fined ₹1 lakh each.

The convicts, identified as T. Vairavan, M. Muthukaruppan, T. Sundrapandi, V. Naveena, K. Arjunan, S. Jalabaga Logeshwara Prasad (receiving the 12-year sentences), and S. Sheik Fareath, A.
