**Parvez Hossain Emon Emulates Idol Tamim Iqbal with Blistering T20I Century**

*Sharjah, UAE – May 18, 2024* – Young Chattogram native Parvez Hossain Emon etched his name into Bangladeshi cricketing history on Saturday, smashing a sensational 53-ball century against the UAE and becoming only the second Bangladeshi to reach the coveted milestone in T20I cricket. Emon’s explosive innings included a record-breaking nine sixes, surpassing his childhood idol, Tamim Iqbal, who previously held the distinction of being Bangladesh’s sole T20I centurion.

Growing up idolizing Tamim Iqbal, Emon mirrored his hero’s aggressive style. “Yes, I was well aware of Tamim bhai’s [record]… I try to watch all his games,” Emon stated after his Player of the Match performance. “I am happy because I used to watch Tamim bhai’s game as a child and now my name is right next to his.”

Despite Emon’s heroics, a batting collapse saw Bangladesh fail to capitalize fully, finishing with a total just under 200. Towhid Hridoy was the only other batter to reach double figures. “When the wickets were falling, I just tried not to change my intent… I needed to take the game deep,” Emon explained.

Bangladesh captain Litton Das praised Emon’s outstanding knock but acknowledged the team’s late-innings struggles. “The wicket was very good for batting, and the way Emon batted was outstanding,” Das said. “But we have to finish better. We couldn’t score much in the last three overs.”

However, Das expressed confidence in his bowling attack, which ultimately secured a 27-run victory for Bangladesh. Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib combined to take seven wickets, restricting the UAE to 164. “I always know my bowlers can bounce back at any time. I trust our bowling unit,” Das affirmed.

With a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, Bangladesh will face the UAE again on May 19 in Sharjah for the series decider. Das emphasized the need for improvement despite the win, particularly in understanding how to bowl effectively on the Sharjah pitch, acknowledging the UAE’s strong middle-over batting performance.
