Individuals wishing to place an obituary must email obits@pioneerpress.com, including information from the obituary checklist (available by contacting the obituary desk). Online submission is not available.
The newspaper requires verification of the death, necessitating the name and phone number of the funeral home or cremation society handling arrangements. A death certificate is an acceptable alternative. Contact with the funeral home is essential, especially during limited weekend hours.
The Pioneer Press prohibits referencing external guestbooks or websites in published obituaries. However, funeral home websites or family contact emails are permissible. A proof will be sent via fax or email for review before publication; corrections must be submitted before the daily deadline. Post-publication corrections are not accommodated.
Payment is required before publication and can be made via credit card (phone only), EFT (check by phone), or cash (in person, Monday-Friday, 8 AM-3:30 PM). Strict deadlines apply, varying depending on the publication day.
