Mon May 12 16:41:06 UTC 2025: ## Thoothukudi Hospital Patients Face Scorching Waits for Medicine

**THOOTHUKUDI, May 12, 2025** – Patients at the Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital (TKGMCH) are facing long waits in sweltering heat to receive their medications. Limited sheltered space, vehicle encroachment, and only four dispensing counters contribute to the problem at the busy hospital, a key healthcare provider in the district.

Patients report waiting for extended periods, exacerbated by Thoothukudi’s humid climate. One patient, Mohan (name changed), highlighted the longstanding nature of the space constraints, noting that despite repeated petitions, no action has been taken to expand the sheltered area. He also emphasized the need for more dispensing counters, particularly on days with high patient volume for conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and antenatal care.

Hospital administration acknowledged the issue of vehicle encroachment, stating that warnings have been issued. However, they attributed the limited number of counters to staffing shortages. The administration assures that efforts are underway to resolve the encroachment problem. The situation underscores the need for improved infrastructure and staffing at the hospital to better serve the community.
