Mon May 12 16:37:56 UTC 2025: ## Kochi’s Chaotic Vyttila Junction to Get Makeover
**KOCHI, May 12, 2025** – The congested Vyttila junction in Kochi, plagued by a poorly designed roundabout and medians under its six-lane flyover, is finally set for a redevelopment. Following a joint study by the Motor Vehicles Department and Traffic Police, and a visit by Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar, a plan has been finalized to improve traffic flow at the junction, which handles over 100,000 vehicles and thousands of pedestrians daily.
The plan includes reducing the size of the roundabout and medians, widening carriageways, and improving access to the Vyttila Mobility Hub and Kaniampuzha Road. The bus stop on the Alappuzha side will be relocated to alleviate congestion. The Public Works Department (PWD), initially criticized for its role in the junction’s design, will carry out the improvements. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will take over the junction once the PWD completes the redevelopment.
Councillor Sunitha Dixon welcomed the news, but stressed the need for expedited works and further improvements, including widening the Vyttila-Kunnara Park Road and relocating a traffic police watchtower obstructing traffic flow. Funding for the project will come from the Kerala Road Safety Authority.
