Mon May 12 15:17:14 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Launches Statewide Cancer Screening Program

**Chennai, May 12, 2025** – Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian launched a comprehensive statewide cancer screening program today, aiming to detect and treat cancer early. The ₹27 crore initiative, initially piloted in four districts, will now expand to all 38 districts, encompassing 822 screening centers. Over 1.5 million people participated in the initial phases, with 351 individuals receiving timely treatment after early diagnosis.

The program was announced in the 2024 state budget and will be implemented in 12 districts immediately. The Minister also highlighted the progress of a ₹372 crore cancer research center in Kancheepuram, slated for inauguration next month.

Minister Subramanian further praised the success of the Innuyir Kappom scheme, which has treated over 300,000 accident victims within 48 hours at a cost of over ₹330 crore. He expressed concerns regarding the Union government’s conditional financial aid for accident victims and advocated for immediate disbursement of the promised ₹1.5 lakh. The launch event also included a celebration of International Nurses Day.
