Mon May 12 15:45:21 UTC 2025: ## Bengaluru Launches New Entity to Tackle Mega Infrastructure Projects

**Bengaluru, India (May 12, 2025)** – The Karnataka state government has established Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited (B-SMILE), a special purpose vehicle (SPV), to spearhead large-scale infrastructure projects in the city. B-SMILE, fully owned by the state (90% equity held by the government and 10% by the BBMP), will receive an initial ₹7,000 crore investment and is authorized to seek additional private funding.

The SPV will be governed by an 11-member board, comprising government officials and private sector experts. Its primary focus will be on long-term infrastructure development, leaving routine maintenance tasks to the existing municipal corporations. Initial projects include the construction of 40 km of tunnel roads, a city-wide network of flyovers and underpasses, road development along stormwater drains, and a 250-meter high skydeck – all projects closely associated with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

This restructuring is intended to improve efficiency and resource allocation for major infrastructure projects. The board’s composition will be reviewed following the implementation of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, and the subsequent division of the BBMP. B-SMILE is anticipated to handle city-wide projects that transcend the jurisdictions of multiple corporations.
