Sat May 10 05:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Uttarakhand Halts Kedarnath Helicopter Service Amidst Heightened Security Concerns

**Dehradun, Uttarakhand:** Following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan and the launch of “Operation Sindur,” the Uttarakhand government has suspended helicopter services to Kedarnath as a precautionary measure. Authorities are also considering suspending helicopter services to Gangotri and Badrinath. The move comes as part of a broader security enhancement across the Char Dham pilgrimage sites.

The Char Dham Yatra, which began on May 2nd with the opening of Kedarnath and Badrinath temples, and concluded on May 30th with Gangotri and Yamunotri, is seeing a massive influx of pilgrims. Over 2.5 million devotees have already registered. To ensure their safety, the state government has deployed additional police forces along the pilgrimage routes and is conducting intensive security checks across major cities, including night-time patrols and increased presence at key intersections.

Paramilitary forces have been deployed at all four sites (Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri), and pilgrims are undergoing security screenings. Authorities are using drones and conducting verification drives to identify suspicious individuals. Vehicles entering from neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh are also being thoroughly checked. Anyone deemed suspicious is being detained for questioning.

Hospitals have been placed on high alert and instructed to ensure sufficient medical supplies and personnel are available to handle any emergencies. The district administration and police department are operating in a state of high alert across the state, with increased patrols in major cities like Dehradun, Haridwar, and Rishikesh.
