**Chennai, May 10, 2025** – A 160-meter cable-stayed pedestrian bridge, connecting the two phases of Tholkappia Poonga ecopark in Adyar, is slated to open in June. The ₹7.16 crore project, commissioned by the Chennai Rivers Restoration Trust (CRRT) and constructed by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), features a 3.2-meter wide walkway designed to accommodate walkers and joggers.
The aesthetically pleasing skywalk, rising 5.8 meters above Greenways Road at its highest point, will significantly improve safety and access between the park’s two sections. Construction, which began in July 2024, is currently 65% complete, with 62% of the budget already spent. Remaining work includes installing handrails and laying the wood-plastic flooring, expected to be finished by May 25. The structure boasts a single 25-meter tower supporting the deck via steel cables, and its foundation consists of 44 deep piles.
