Mon May 05 16:10:00 UTC 2025: **Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Inaugurates Bridges in Hyderabad, Calls for Faster Project Completion**
HYDERABAD, INDIA – Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated two new bridges in Hyderabad today at Amberpet and BHEL crossroads. The Amberpet flyover, costing ₹145 crore, spans 1.5 km with four lanes, while the BHEL bridge, costing ₹176 crore, extends 1.6 km from Chandanagar to Ramachandrapuram via BHEL.
However, the inauguration was marred by some tension. A scuffle broke out between Congress and BJP party workers, with police intervening to disperse the protestors. Congress leaders reportedly attempted to block Gadkari’s convoy.
During a meeting in Amberpet, Gadkari expressed concern over the slow progress of the Uppal elevated corridor flyover project. He announced a change in contractors to expedite the work, aiming for completion within ten months.
Gadkari stressed the importance of connecting major cities to Hyderabad through national highways, given the city’s significant IT and pharmaceutical sectors. He highlighted the completed Indore-Hyderabad corridor, promising faster completion of the Maharashtra section, reducing travel time between the two cities from 20 to 10 hours. He also committed to speeding up the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road project and upgrading the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway from four to six lanes.
The Minister advocated for increased use of CNG and electric vehicles to reduce reliance on diesel and petrol, urging farmers to adopt environment-friendly vehicles in agriculture as well. He emphasized the need for smart villages alongside smart cities for holistic national development.
Gadkari’s visit also saw calls from Telangana ministers for the state government to expedite land acquisition for pending road projects, particularly the service road for the newly inaugurated Amberpet flyover. Local MPs also requested faster progress on the Uppal and Kompally corridors and the declaration of the Hyderabad-Karimnagar highway as a national highway. Union Minister Kishan Reddy praised Gadkari’s contributions to national highway development, attributing a reduction in road accidents to his efforts.
