Mon May 05 16:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Kings Part Ways with General Manager Rob Blake After Four Straight First-Round Playoff Exits

**Los Angeles, CA – May 5, 2025** – The Los Angeles Kings announced today that they have mutually parted ways with General Manager Rob Blake. The decision comes after four consecutive first-round playoff exits, all at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers. This year’s loss was particularly stinging, as the Kings held a 2-0 series lead and home-ice advantage before ultimately losing in four straight games.

Team President Luc Robitaille will oversee the search for Blake’s successor, beginning immediately. Robitaille or Director of Hockey Operations Jake Goldberg will likely handle day-to-day operations in the interim. The Kings did not have any assistant GMs on Blake’s staff.

Blake’s contract expired after a three-year extension signed in May 2022, following a playoff run that ended in a seven-game loss to the Oilers. During his eight seasons as GM, the Kings posted a 309-238-71 regular season record but struggled in the playoffs, achieving a win percentage of only .286 (8-20).

While Robitaille praised Blake’s contributions and dedication, the team’s consistent first-round failures and dwindling prospect pool – currently ranked 26th in the league – ultimately led to the change. The Kings, however, enter the offseason with a favorable salary cap situation, possessing over $23 million in cap space and only four roster spots to fill.

The Kings’ next general manager will inherit a team with a strong core and significant financial flexibility to pursue free agents and make trades to bolster their scoring, a key area of concern identified following the recent playoff disappointments.
