Fri May 02 20:05:57 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Launches 400 Electric Buses to Improve Last-Mile Connectivity
**New Delhi, May 3, 2025** – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today inaugurated 400 new electric buses as part of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVi) scheme, formerly known as ‘Mohalla buses.’ The initiative, aimed at addressing last-mile connectivity challenges, will initially operate in east and west Delhi, covering areas such as Ghazipur, Vinod Nagar East, and Nangloi.
The BJP government’s relaunch of the scheme, initially introduced by the Aam Aadmi Party in 2023, is expected to significantly improve public transportation options. The 400 buses, operating across 146 routes determined by passenger movement data, are equipped with 23 seats (six reserved for women) and can accommodate 13 standing passengers. Fares will range from ₹10 to ₹25.
An additional 2,080 electric buses are slated to join the fleet by the end of the year. The Chief Minister highlighted the buses’ eco-friendly nature and convenience, particularly in connecting commuters between metro stations and bus terminals. One commuter, Rohtash Sharma, expressed enthusiasm about the extended operating hours, stating that late-night last-mile connectivity is currently a significant challenge in the city.
