Sat May 03 00:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Diamondbacks’ Marte Returns from Injury, Boosts Lineup Against Phillies

**Philadelphia, PA** – Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte is back in the lineup after a successful stint in extended spring training recovering from a left hamstring strain. Marte, who finished third in last year’s NL MVP voting, was activated from the injured list on May 2nd, just in time for a series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Marte, who impressed with seven home runs in 25 at-bats during his rehab, reported feeling good for the past 10 days and gradually increased his workload. While manager Torey Lovullo confirmed Marte will ease back into full exertion, he’s confident in the star player’s return, noting that the team performed well (12-11) in his absence. Lovullo praised the team’s resilience during Marte’s time on the injured list.

To make room for Marte, outfielder Jorge Barrosa was optioned to Triple-A Reno. However, infielder Tim Tawa, called up during Marte’s injury, will remain on the roster. Tawa impressed with his performance despite recent struggles, displaying power and defensive potential, earning him consideration for future starts in center field.

The Diamondbacks also provided updates on several injured players. Right-hander Justin Martinez underwent an MRI for right shoulder inflammation, with the team awaiting results. Catcher Adrian Del Castillo, recovering from a shoulder strain, is expected to return as a designated hitter mid-May.

The series against the Phillies features a compelling pitching matchup. Diamondbacks’ Merrill Kelly will face off against Phillies’ Jesus Luzardo in the opener, followed by Pfaadt vs. Nola and Rodriguez vs. Suarez in subsequent games. The Phillies, currently 17-13 and on a four-game win streak, pose a tough challenge for the returning Marte and the Diamondbacks.
