**Kozhikode, Kerala, May 3, 2025** – Approximately 200 patients were evacuated from the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode late Friday evening following a fire in the Casualty building’s UPS room. The fire, believed to have been caused by a short circuit, resulted in heavy smoke engulfing the area.

Fire and Rescue Services quickly responded and extinguished the blaze. Patients requiring critical care were transferred to nearby hospitals. Hospital Superintendent M.P. Sreejayan confirmed the situation is under control. Kerala Health Minister Veena George has ordered a full inquiry into the incident.
