Fri Apr 25 15:34:36 UTC 2025: **CPI(M) Condemns Divisive Politics Following Kashmir Massacre**

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, April 25, 2025 – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) has issued a strong warning against the exploitation of a recent terrorist attack in Kashmir for political gain. The party’s state secretary, M.V. Govindan, stated that divisive forces, including both Islamist and Hindutva groups, are attempting to exacerbate religious tensions in Kerala.

The attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 unarmed holidaymakers in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has seen the daughter of a victim subjected to online harassment for praising the assistance provided by local Muslims. Govindan criticized both the BJP and Congress for what he termed opportunistic political maneuvers in the aftermath of the tragedy. He accused the BJP of supporting a fundamentalist candidate in J&K elections and Congress of allying with similar forces in Kerala.

Govindan further blamed successive central governments for mishandling the situation in Kashmir, citing the revocation of Article 370 in 2019 as a key factor contributing to the resurgence of terrorism. He highlighted Kashmir’s unique history and Sufi tradition, contrasting it with the current political climate. The CPI(M) also criticized the Congress for neglecting the legacy of Chettur Sankaran Nair, a prominent freedom fighter. The party emphasized the need for unity and urged voters to reject communal politics. Concerns over a security lapse that allowed the attack to occur in a heavily militarized zone were also raised by BJP leaders.
