**NEW DELHI, April 19, 2025** – The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly condemned the killing of Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a prominent Hindu community leader in Bangladesh, and accused the interim government of “systematic persecution” of Hindu minorities.
Roy, 58, was abducted and murdered on Thursday, April 17th. The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, stated that this killing is part of a pattern of violence against Hindus under the interim government led by Professor Mohammed Yunus, and that perpetrators of previous attacks remain unpunished. The statement urged the Bangladeshi government to uphold its responsibility to protect all minority groups.
This latest statement marks a continuation of the escalating exchange between India and Bangladesh over the treatment of religious minorities in both countries. On Thursday, Bangladesh had called on India to ensure the safety of its Muslim minority population, prompting the MEA to dismiss the comments as “disingenuous.”
