**Bengaluru, April 17, 2025** – Forty women bike taxi drivers in Bengaluru have petitioned Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, urging a reconsideration of the statewide ban on bike taxi services. The ban follows a Karnataka High Court order on April 2nd, directing companies like Rapido, Ola, and Uber to cease operations within six weeks unless the state government implements guidelines under Section 93 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

The drivers, many of whom rely solely on bike taxi services for their income, are appealing for a proper regulatory framework. They also requested temporary permits for compliant operators and a platform for stakeholder consultation to develop sustainable policies. “We sought temporary permits for compliant operators and a platform for stakeholder consultation to shape inclusive and sustainable policies,” said Indrani, a petitioner and bike taxi driver. The petition highlights the significant impact the ban has on the livelihoods of these women.
