**Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, April 10, 2025** – Congress party posters demanding the resignation of Namakkal MP V.S. Matheswaran have appeared across the district following his absence during the parliamentary vote on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025. The posters, put up by the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) minority wing, accuse Matheswaran of betraying the DMK, the INDIA alliance, and Muslim voters who supported him. The MP’s absence, they claim, constitutes a dereliction of duty.
Matheswaran attributes his absence to illness, stating that his alliance partners are aware of the situation. He plans to participate in a protest against the bill on April 13th.
Adding to the controversy, a fire broke out at Matheswaran’s house in Pattinam early Thursday morning. While initial reports suggested a possible arson attack, Namakkal District police have denied these claims, attributing the fire to an electrical short circuit. Police have warned against spreading rumors. The fire resulted in damage to an air conditioning unit, fans, and switch boxes. Matheswaran’s mother was alone in the house at the time, but was unharmed.
