IDUKKI, KERALA – A family of four was found dead in their home in Idukki district on Thursday evening, April 10, 2025. Sajeev Mohanan (40), his wife Reshma (35), and their two young children, Devan (6) and Diya (4), were found hanging in their home’s hall in Onpathekkar, Upputhara panchayat.
Police suspect a murder-suicide, believing the parents killed their children before taking their own lives. Sajeev’s mother discovered the bodies after finding the house locked and alerted local residents, who subsequently contacted the police. Sajeev worked as an autorickshaw driver.
Preliminary investigations suggest financial difficulties may have been a contributing factor. Sajeev’s father alleges that representatives from a private finance company threatened him and his son on Wednesday over unpaid EMIs on a loan taken to purchase the autorickshaw. Police reportedly recovered a suicide note written by Sajeev.
Idukki District Police Chief T.K. Vishnu Pradeep stated that while financial problems are suspected to have triggered the incident, a full scientific investigation will be conducted to determine the exact circumstances.
