**Pudukkottai, April 5, 2025** – Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old woodcutter, P. Murugesan, in Mazhaiyur near Karambakudi, Pudukkottai district. Murugesan was hacked to death near a TASMAC liquor outlet on Friday.

The incident sparked protests in the village, with residents blocking roads and vandalizing the TASMAC outlet. The protests continued into Saturday, forcing a local trader shutdown before police negotiations led to the agitation’s end.

Arrested were S. Ayyappan and K. Mugaseelan, both 19 and residents of Karuppattipatti. Police investigations suggest a long-standing feud as the motive. Murugesan reportedly opposed the elopement of a relative’s daughter, allegedly facilitated by Ayyappan’s family around a year and a half ago. However, authorities are exploring other possible motives.
