**Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, April 5, 2025** – Authorities in Muzaffarnagar have issued notices to 24 individuals who protested against the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The protesters wore black badges during Friday prayers on March 28th to demonstrate their opposition to the bill.

According to Superintendent of Police (City) Satyanarayan Prajapat, the notices, issued by City Magistrate Vikas Kashyap, demand each individual furnish a bond of ₹2 lakh. The police identified the protesters through CCTV footage. Those served notices maintain their actions were a form of peaceful, democratic protest.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, passed by both houses of Parliament, aims to improve the management of Waqf properties, enhance transparency, and incorporate technology. While the bill’s proponents argue it is not targeted against Muslims, the protest highlights concerns among some sections of the community. The Lok Sabha passed the bill by a vote of 288-232, while the Rajya Sabha approved it with 128 votes in favor and 95 against. The protesters are scheduled to appear in court on April 16th.
