**BERLIN** – In a landmark operation involving 36 countries, authorities have dismantled Kidflix, a sprawling dark web platform that hosted approximately 72,000 videos of extreme child sexual abuse. Dubbed “Operation Stream,” the international effort led by German authorities resulted in the arrest of 79 individuals directly linked to the platform, with over 1,400 more suspects identified.
Kidflix, active since 2021, amassed over 1.8 million users before its takedown on March 11, 2025. The platform, unlike many others, allowed users to both stream and download the abusive content, generating revenue through cryptocurrency transactions and a reward system for categorizing or uploading videos. An average of 3.5 new videos were uploaded every hour, many previously unseen by investigators.
Among those arrested was a 36-year-old man who allegedly offered his young son for abuse, highlighting the platform’s role not only in distributing but also facilitating ongoing exploitation. A US-based serial abuser was also identified. The investigation also led to 96 interventions by German authorities to protect children from ongoing abuse, resulting in the safeguarding of 39 children and the cessation of 12 instances of active exploitation.
Europol’s executive director, Catherine de Bolle, stressed the gravity of the situation, stating that “this is not merely a technical or cyber issue. There are real victims behind these crimes, and those victims are children.” The investigation revealed that most suspects were between 20 and 40 years old, with the youngest born in 2006 and the oldest in their seventies.
Guido Limmer, deputy head of the Bavarian criminal police, described Operation Stream as one of the most significant crackdowns on child pornography in recent history. Authorities continue to pursue leads to bring further offenders to justice and dismantle similar networks operating on the dark web.
