Sun Mar 23 03:54:09 UTC 2025: ## Indian Tech Executive Wrongfully Detained in Qatar, Family Pleads for Release

**Doha, Qatar/Vadodara, India – March 22, 2025** – Amit Gupta, a senior employee of Tech Mahindra and a resident of Vadodara, India, has been detained in Qatar since January 1st, sparking concerns and prompting calls for his release. His family alleges his detention is wrongful, claiming he has been falsely accused of data theft.

Gupta, who has reportedly worked for Tech Mahindra in Qatar for the past 10 years, was detained by Qatari state security, according to his family. His mother, Pushpa Gupta, has traveled to Qatar and met with the Indian ambassador, who reportedly stated that there has been no positive progress in the case.

The Indian Embassy in Qatar is aware of the situation and confirms it is providing all possible assistance to Gupta, though details regarding the ongoing investigation and specific charges remain undisclosed. The embassy has been in contact with Gupta’s family, his lawyer, and Qatari authorities.

Gupta’s family, along with BJP MP Hemang Joshi, are actively seeking his release, appealing to the Prime Minister’s Office for intervention. They maintain his innocence and insist he is being held unjustly.

This is the second high-profile case involving the detention of Indian nationals in Qatar in recent years. In a separate incident, eight former Indian Navy personnel were detained in 2022, sentenced to death in 2023, but later released following commutation of their sentences. The similarities between the cases have raised further anxieties amongst Indian officials and the public. The current situation underscores ongoing concerns about the safety and security of Indian citizens working abroad.
