**IDUKKI, KERALA – March 20, 2025** – A six-year-old female elephant was found dead near Anayirankal in Idukki district on Thursday. Preliminary investigations by forest officials suggest the elephant may have died after falling from a rock. While injury marks were observed on the animal’s body, the exact cause of death will be determined following a chemical examination. A necropsy was conducted by a team of veterinary surgeons from Munnar and the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Local plantation workers reported a herd of elephants had been in the area for several days prior to the incident.
