Thu Mar 20 13:03:32 UTC 2025: ## Coimbatore Rally Calls for Sparrow Conservation Amidst Cellular Tower Concerns

**COIMBATORE, March 20, 2025** – A World Sparrow Day awareness rally held in Coimbatore today urged the Forest Department to investigate the purported link between declining sparrow populations and cellular towers. Organized by the Nature Environment Services Trust (NEST), the rally saw participation from over 150 students, city officials, and representatives from the Forest Department.

Participants, many sporting artificial wings and carrying placards, highlighted the issue of dwindling sparrow numbers, attributing the decline to the proliferation of cellular towers. Ananth Mathivanan of NEST suggested forming a committee of forest officials, ornithologists, and scientific experts to study this claim.

NEST pledged to provide bird shelters with food and water, offering contact numbers (90433-34958 and 94425-04154) for assistance in constructing these shelters. The event, which included a march around the Race Course, concluded with a call to action to protect the sparrow population.
