**New Delhi, India** – Delhi Police announced the successful resolution of a high-profile armed robbery case, recovering nearly the entire stolen amount of Rs 80 lakh and arresting two suspects. The breakthrough came through the utilization of Israeli facial recognition technology.
On Monday, March 17th, an employee of R K Enterprises, Ajmal Bhai Ganesh, was robbed at gunpoint in Chandni Chowk while carrying Rs 80 lakh. The perpetrators fired a warning shot before escaping with the cash.
Delhi Police launched a comprehensive investigation, analyzing footage from nearly 500 CCTV cameras across several areas. Crucially, Israeli facial recognition software was deployed to identify the main suspect, Md Ali (21), by comparing a screengrab from the CCTV footage against a comprehensive database. The system yielded a 32.09% similarity score, linking Ali to a previous case and pinpointing his residence in Daryaganj.
Following Ali’s arrest, police apprehended his accomplice, Samir (19), also in Daryaganj. A subsequent raid recovered Rs 79.5 lakh in cash, a semi-automatic pistol, and other evidence. Investigations revealed that Ali had prior knowledge of the cash movement and conducted reconnaissance before the robbery, while Samir executed the crime.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Raja Banthia, praised the effectiveness of the Israeli technology, stating its ability to identify suspects by matching faces against a large database significantly aided the investigation. Both Ali and Samir have been charged with relevant offenses.
