Mountain View, CA – Google today announced the Pixel 9a, a budget-friendly smartphone boasting a range of high-end features, including a powerful AI assistant and an advanced camera system. Priced at just $499, the Pixel 9a will be available starting in April.
The device features a sleek redesign with a 6.3-inch Actua display—35% brighter than its predecessor—and a smooth 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Available in Peony, Iris, Porcelain, and Obsidian colorways, the Pixel 9a prioritizes durability with IP68 water and dust resistance and a promise of seven years of OS and security updates.
A standout feature is the upgraded dual rear camera system, including a 48MP main camera and a 13MP ultrawide lens with Macro Focus—all for under $500. AI-powered photography features such as Magic Eraser, Audio Magic Eraser, Night Sight, Astrophotography, and a new Panorama with Night Sight are also included.
Powering the Pixel 9a is Google’s Tensor G4 chip, promising efficient performance and an impressive battery life of over 30 hours (extending to over 100 hours with Extreme Battery Saver).
The integration of Gemini Nano, Google’s AI assistant, sets the Pixel 9a apart. Users can engage in natural conversations with Gemini Live, share their screen, and even use video-sharing capabilities (for Gemini Advanced subscribers). Additional AI features include Circle to Search and Pixel Studio.
The Pixel 9a also incorporates enhanced security features, such as Car Crash Detection, Theft protection, and a built-in VPN by Google. Furthermore, Google is rolling out Google Wallet for kids on the Pixel 9a in select countries, offering parents greater control over their children’s digital spending and app usage through Google Family Link and School Time features.
The Pixel 9a will be available at the Google Store and various retail partners beginning in April.
