**Hyderabad, March 19, 2025** – The Telangana government has announced a significant increase in healthcare funding for the 2025-26 fiscal year, allocating ₹12,393 crore to the Health, Medical, and Family Welfare Department. This represents an 8% increase (₹925 crore) over the previous year’s allocation and surpasses the ₹12,161 crore budgeted in 2023-24.
Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, presenting the budget on Wednesday, highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services. Key initiatives include a 50% increase in Aarogyasri scheme funding to ₹1,215 crore since December 2023, benefiting 2.84 crore citizens. The government has also prioritized securing increased funding under the National Health Mission (NHM).
Significant improvements in critical care are underway, with the expansion of free dialysis facilities to 102 centers (benefiting over one lakh patients and saving them ₹948 crore), and the sanctioning of 95 new centers. Emergency medical response has also been enhanced with the addition of 136 new ambulances in underserved areas.
Medical education infrastructure is receiving a major boost with 400 new MBBS seats, 16 new nursing colleges, and 28 new allied health sciences colleges, creating 2,640 additional annual student places.
A substantial ₹2,700 crore has been earmarked for the construction of a modern Osmania General Hospital on a 27-acre site, aiming to modernize the century-old facility. The government’s substantial investment underscores its commitment to improving healthcare access and quality across Telangana.
