**Lucknow, March 17, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh announced the appointment of 70 new district presidents as part of a major organizational reshuffle. The appointments, aimed at achieving caste balance ahead of the 2027 assembly elections, prioritize Brahmins and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). A total of 44 (60%) of the new presidents come from these two caste groups, with 25 from OBCs and 19 from Brahmins.
The BJP has divided the state into 98 organizational districts, with appointments for the remaining 28 districts still pending. The newly announced list includes five women and 26 reappointed presidents. Significant representation is given to various OBC sub-castes, including Kurmis, Lodhs, and Mauryas. Key districts like Mathura, Bahraich, and Gorakhpur have received Brahmin leaders as their new district presidents.
Six Scheduled Caste (SC) presidents have also been appointed, with three from the Pasi community. The appointments also include new presidents for key districts such as Varanasi and Amethi.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the newly appointed officials, expressing confidence in their ability to strengthen the party’s campaign for security and good governance. The appointments are seen as a precursor to the upcoming Panchayat elections and the appointment of a new state BJP chief. The remaining district presidents are expected to be announced soon, according to state election in-charge Mahendra Nath Pandey.
