**TOWNS COUNTY, Ga. —** The deaths of 19-year-old twin brothers, Qaadir and Naazir Lewis, found shot dead on Bell Mountain in Towns County, Georgia, are shrouded in mystery. While the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) initially classified the incident as a murder-suicide, the family vehemently disputes this conclusion.
The twins, from Lawrenceville, were discovered Saturday morning by a hiker nearly 90 miles from their home. Their family insists the inseparable brothers, who had planned a trip to Boston, would never harm each other. They were reportedly last seen alive on Friday morning, having missed their flight. Their plane tickets were found in their wallets at the scene, a location the family stated the twins had never visited before.
“They don’t hike, they’ve never been there,” said their aunt, Samira Brawner. “They don’t know anything about Hiawassee, Georgia. They never even heard of Bell Mountain.”
The GBI’s preliminary findings point towards a murder-suicide, a claim the family rejects outright. “They had a huge support system,” said aunt Yasmine Brawner. “They wouldn’t do anything like this. To say they did this to each other? No. Something happened in those mountains, and we want answers.”
Autopsies have been completed, but the GBI awaits further forensic test results and additional investigation before releasing a final determination on the cause of death. The family has launched an online fundraiser to cover funeral expenses.
