**CHENNAI, March 15, 2025** – Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw praised Tamil as a “sweet” language and a valuable asset to India and the world during the inauguration of a Zetwerk Electronics manufacturing unit in Sriperumbudur on Saturday. Minister Vaishnaw, who holds the portfolios of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics and Information Technology, recounted learning about Tamil culture and language from a professor at IIT Kanpur. He noted the inclusion of multiple Indian languages in the Telecom and Data Protection Laws as an example of the Prime Minister’s initiative to promote linguistic diversity. He emphasized that all constitutional languages should be readily available to users.
The Minister’s comments come amidst a continuing debate in Tamil Nadu regarding the alleged imposition of Hindi through the National Education Policy, a claim the union government has denied.
