Fri Mar 14 07:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Stargazers Prepare for γ-Normid Meteor Shower

**Manila, Philippines** – Filipino astronomy enthusiasts are in for a treat as the annual γ-Normid meteor shower peaks on Friday, March 14, 2025. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) predicts a modest display of up to six meteors per hour.

The shower, active from February 25 to March 28, will be best viewed after the constellation Norma, its radiant point, rises above the eastern horizon around 11:33 PM on Thursday, March 13. Optimal viewing conditions are expected around 4:00 AM on March 14, when Norma is highest in the sky.

PAGASA advises skywatchers to seek dark locations away from city lights for the best viewing experience under clear skies. While a waning gibbous moon might interfere with visibility, the shower is easily observable with the naked eye; no special equipment is needed. The meteors, or “shooting stars,” are created by space rocks burning up in Earth’s atmosphere.

Although less spectacular than some past events, like the Perseids meteor shower in August 2016 (which boasted 200-300 meteors per hour), the γ-Normids still offer a celestial spectacle for those willing to look up.
