Fri Mar 14 15:16:17 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Group Demands Repeal of Land Acquisition Act and MSP Guarantee
**TIRUCHI, March 14, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu unit of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM Non-Political) has urged the state government to repeal the controversial Tamil Nadu Land Consolidation (for Special Projects) Act, 2023, and pass a resolution demanding a central law guaranteeing Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for agricultural produce.
In a press conference on Friday, SKM state convenor P.R. Pandian and president P. Ayyakannu accused both the state’s DMK government and the BJP-led central government of implementing anti-farmer policies, alleging that political parties consistently fail to deliver on pre-election promises regarding farmer welfare. They cited unmet demands including an MSP of ₹3,500 per quintal for paddy and ₹5,000 per ton for sugarcane.
The farmers’ group highlighted concerns over the privatization of paddy procurement in parts of the state, coupled with reduced subsidies, withheld funds, and a lack of government incentives. They criticized the 2023 Land Consolidation Act as detrimental to farmers’ interests, arguing that it facilitates large-scale land acquisition for infrastructure projects with insufficient compensation and consent. The SKM claims the act threatens traditional farming livelihoods and benefits large corporations at the expense of small farmers.
The SKM’s Tamil Nadu General Council will convene on March 16th in Sengottai to strategize further protests and advocate for their demands.
