Fri Mar 14 15:40:21 UTC 2025: **CPI(M) Accuses ED of Launching Political Witch-Hunt in Kerala**
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, March 14, 2025 – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) in Kerala has accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of initiating a politically motivated campaign against the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) government. The party alleges that the ED’s recent notice to CPI(M) MP K. Radhakrishnan marks the beginning of a renewed smear campaign, similar to one launched in 2021, aimed at undermining the LDF ahead of upcoming local body and assembly elections.
CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan stated that the ED’s actions are a desperate attempt to sway public opinion. He referenced a previous High Court rebuke of the ED for the “illegal arrest and jailing” of another CPI(M) leader, Aravindakshan. Govindan described the ED as a “catspaw” of the BJP, suggesting the agency is acting at the behest of the opposition.
The party also addressed internal matters, acknowledging a controversy involving CPI(M) leader K.V. Padamkumar’s public comments on party decisions. Govindan explained that the party utilizes leaders based on their diverse skill sets and that the recent state conference had assembled a balanced team. He also confirmed an ongoing investigation into the leak of an internal party document. Finally, he announced that party secretariat members have been advised to be more active within party committees. The CPI(M) remains confident that the public will see through what it calls the ED’s “smokescreen” and support the LDF in the upcoming elections.
