NEW DELHI, March 14, 2025 – Goa Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai emphasized the interconnectedness of various art forms, including literature, music, painting, and cinema, at the Sahitya Akademi’s ‘Festival of Letters 2025’ in Delhi on Thursday. He argued that these art forms are not isolated entities but rather exist in a dynamic conversation, enriching each other and amplifying their impact on culture and emotion.
Mr. Pillai cited examples such as Ustad Bismillah Khan’s refusal of a prestigious US position unless the Ganges River could accompany him, showcasing the profound connection between artists and their cultural roots. He also highlighted M.S. Subbulakshmi’s UN concert as a symbol of unity.
The Governor further asserted the power of literature to convey complex truths simply, likening the essence of newspaper news to a newspaper cartoon capturing the main points concisely. Other writers and artists, including Dr. Madhav Kaushik, Gautam Ghosh, and Jatin Das, also participated in the festival, sharing their perspectives on the intersection of art forms.
